| Bequests
(Will Inclusions) |
|
| |
| The most straight-forward and popular method for a donor to support Aquinas College is by making a bequest in their will.
of remembering charities is by drafting a will that includes a provision
for those causes that are dear to you. By spending a few moments with your attorney, you will have the peace of mind that: |
- You have provided
for loved ones and heirs
- Your assets will
be distributed according to your wishes
- You have saved
on estate taxes with proper planning, and
- You leave a legacy,
reflective of your values and beliefs, without giving up the assets
now
|
| To name Aquinas College in your will, all you generally need is the following information: |
- Aquinas' full legal name: Aquinas College, Inc.
- Our permanent mailing address: 1607 Robinson Road, SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506-1799
- The College's federal tax identification number: 38-136708
|
| In addition, the following language can generally be used by your advisor to make a bequest to Aquinas College: |
| "I
give, devise, and bequeath to Aquinas College, Inc., federal tax identification
number 38-1367080, with the permanent address of 1607 Robinson Road, SE,
Grand Rapids, MI 49506-1799 the sum of $_______ [or describe the real
or personal property or percentage of your estate] to be used for its
general purposes." |

| Aquinas College has benefited
greatly from a number of generous bequests. In 2003, the College received
its largest bequest to date from the estate of former trustee and alumnus,
Jerome C. Byrne '48. The proceeds from the sale of his villa in Beverly
Hills, CA provided Aquinas with a gift of $1.6 million. This helped to establish
the Byrne Professorship in Early Childhood Education and the Byrne Distinguished
Faculty Fund. It also strengthened the Jerome C. Byrne Scholarship, which
recognizes outstanding students who maintain a 3.7 GPA. After Aquinas College,
Byrne attended Harvard University where he was the editor of the Law Review.
He later served as special counsel to the Governor of California, where
he investigated student unrest and helped to restructure the University
of California educational system during the1960s. Mr. Byrne died of cancer
on October 24, 2001. |
