06/01/2010 – The men's and women's track teams returned from the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships with four All Americans and new school records. The championships, which were contested on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, began on Thursday and concluded Saturday afternoon. The temperatures were unseasonably warm; as the average temperature was in the mid 80's during the entire championships.
Highlighting the meet for the Saints was the performances by Emily Popma, Allison Strouse, Kaitlyn Meernik and Emily Smith. Senior Emily Popma finished third in the women's marathon as she established a new school record of 3:06:22. Fellow senior, Kaitlyn Meernik, also had a great marathon performance as she placed seventh in a time of 3:21:39. Allison Strouse capped off a brilliant career as she placed fifth in the 100M Hurdles. In the semifinal round Allison set a personal best by running 14.17 (#2 All-Time at Aquinas). Freshman Emily Smith had a successful first trip to Nationals as she placed seventh in the discus (147-1). The women as a teamed placed 24th with a total of 14 points. On the men's side, Rumeal McKinney established a new school record in the 100M as he raced home in 10.45 in the preliminary heat.
