11/03/2010 – The women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to 17 games as the Saints defeated Madonna in four games. The victory improves Aquinas' record to 26-11 on the season and 11-4 in the WHAC, while the twenty-first ranked Crusaders slip to 13-2 in the league and 28-8 overall.
Energy filled the air at the Sturrus tonight as both teams were beginning to make plans for a late season push toward the postseason. Aquinas quickly staked claim to a 2-0 advantage as the Saints were victorious in the first two games by the identical 25-17 score. The Crusaders would not fold as they stormed back in the third set (25-17) to inch closer to the Saints. The fourth set went back and forth until a late surge by the Saints completed the four set victory.
The Saints were led by the attacking trio of Chelsea Phillips (14 kills), Jessica Curtis (10 kills) and Mollie Lounds (10 kills). Reigning WHAC Player of the Week, Katie Vander Meer directed the floor game en route to 44 assists, while Sarah LeClair once again came up big recording 24 digs.
The Saints will conclude their regular season with a home match on Thursday night at the Sturrus Sport & Fitness Center against Concordia.
