10/24/2013 – The women's soccer team shivered and scraped their way to a scoreless tie with Siena Heights on a chilly day in Grand Rapids. The draw enabled the Saints to move into third place in the WHAC standings with a mark of 4-2-1 in the league and 9-5-1 overall, while Siena Heights record now sits at 7-7-2 on the season and to 3-3-1 in the WHAC.
The two schools, which both share the nickname of the Saints, were pitted in their usual defensive-minded battle of wills. The two veteran coaches knew this match had major seeding implication for the upcoming WHAC tournament and a win would catapult either squad up the ladder.
After 110 minutes of play, a scoreless scoreboard showed the final verdict on this night. The win eluded both squads, but they will take the point and look onward to their next challenge down the road.
Aquinas saw Molly O'Connor record seven saves, while her counterpart, Crystal Wilcoxen of Siena was credited with eight saves. Aquinas outshot Siena Heights 15-12.
The Saints will now host Lawrence Tech (6-8, 1-6 WHAC) in their regular season home finale on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
