10/31/2013 – The women's volleyball team concluded the home portion of their regular season schedule with a straight set victory over Siena Heights. The victory improved the Saints record to 21-8 and to 6-4 in league play, while the Heights fell to 6-4 in the WHAC and to 13-12 on the season. Aquinas finds themselves in fifth place in the WHAC standings with one league match to play.
The pregame was highlighted by honoring the 2013 senior class. Nicci Thomas, Amy VonKronenberger, Megan Toth, Mikela Caseria and Jackie Overton were all were honored with their family and friends by their side. The administration, coaches and alumni all understand and appreciate the courage and sacrifice these young women have showed over their Aquinas career's.
The pregame festivities and excitement of the moment carried over to the match. Aquinas wasted little time and rushed out to first set victory (25-20). The Saints hit the ball very well over the next two sets (25-17 and 25-21) to claim the victory in the key WHAC showdown. MacKenzie Kolstad anchored the offense with eleven kills, while senior Nicci Thomas dished out 28 assists. Amy VonKronenberger and Rachel Sprenger were both credited with 15 digs apiece and the duo of Meghan Veldheer and Molly Maynard produced three blocks each.
The Saints will compete in a pair of matches at Davenport on Saturday. Aquinas will tangle with St. Francis (Ind.) at 10 a.m. and Spring Arbor at 12:30 p.m.
