11/07/2013 – The women's basketball team extended their season opening winning streak to three games as they defeated Goshen 75-46. The victory improved the Saints record to 3-0, while the Maple Leafs remain winless at 0-3.
The two teams were engaged in a tight early battle, as both squads were trying to find their rhythm, on the home court of the Leafs. The Saints used a 24-7 surge over the final 11:30 of half number one to take a comfortable 36-16 lead into the locker room.
The Saints built the advantage to as many as 36 in the second half before finally settling on the 29 point win. Aquinas used a balanced attack that saw five Saints score in double figures. Brooklynne Lane followed up her breakout performance with a 16 point effort. The sophomore converted 7-of-11 field goals in a little over 14 minutes of playing time. Allsion Heberlein added eleven points and six rebounds to the Saints cause, while the trio of Danielle Lollo, Marisa Marx and Lindsey Karpowicz each scored ten a piece.
The Saints outshot the Leafs 41%-29%, while their defense forced 32 Goshen turnovers.
The Saints will look to stay perfect with a home date versus Rochester (3-3) next Tuesday.
