Saints Survive Slow Start

11/23/13 – The men's basketball team was able to secure a league victory on the road as they defeated UM Dearborn 63-60. The win improved the Saints record to 3-2 overall and to 2-1 in the WHAC, while the Wolves remain winless at 0-6 on the season and to 0-3 in the league.

After being outscored 12-3 over the contests first four minutes, the Saints rallied to score 18 of the games next 20 points. The duo of Kolin Kazen and Anthony Williams were instrumental in the Saints victory. The first-year transfers accounted for 50% of the Aquinas offensive production.

The Saints 26-18 halftime lead was quickly evaporated as the Wolves grabbed a one-point advantage at the 14:10 mark of the second half. The Saints would regain the lead on a two point make by Jake Bullock and never look back. Aquinas maintained an advantage that see-sawed between one and six points the rest of the way. The final buzzer sounded with the scoreboard showing the Saints escaping Dearborn with a 63-60 victory.

Kolin Kazen accounted for 16 points and eight rebounds to pace the Saints attack. Anthony Williams chipped in with 17 points as he converted four-of-five three point attempts.

The Saints will now return home for a date with Concordia (2-5, 1-2 WHAC) on Tuesday.
