On the "Marx"

12/08/2013 – The women's basketball team extended their winning streak to four as the three-point shooting of Marissa Marx keyed the victory. The win improved the Saints record to 9-1 on the season and to 5-1 in league play, while the Mustangs fell to 0-6 in the WHAC and to 2-9 overall. Aquinas currently finds themselves in a three-way tie for first in the WHAC standings.

A barrage of three point makes by Marissa Marx in the first half kick started the Saints offense. Marx finished the half with 16 points, converting 4-of-6 of her attempts from beyond the arc. The Mustangs outshot the Saints in the first half (39%-32%), but the Saints maintained a 33-26 heading into the halftime break.

Marygrove would tie the game at 38 with 15:23 to play, but once again it was another three point conversion by Marx that put the Saints ahead for the remainder of the contest. Marissa, a senior from Warren, would finish the game with 22 points, while Allison Heberlein chipped in the 17 points. The Saints 30-0 advantage from beyond the three-point arc proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome.

The Saints will now host Olivet (5-1) in a non-conference affair on Wednesday at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center starting at 7 p.m.
