12/18/2013 – The Aquinas College men's basketball team rebounded from a tough two-point loss on Saturday to defeat Grace Bible tonight by the score of 86-66. With the win, the Saints improve to 5-7 on the season.
The Saints got off to an early 10-point lead thanks to Brett Pfahler, who scored 10 points in the game's first four minutes. The Saints would grow the lead to as many as 15 points before the Tigers stormed back. A huge run to end the half gave Grace Bible a 38-36 lead heading into the break.
A few half-time adjustments turned things around for the Saints, who quickly regained the lead with a 10-2 run to open the half. The Tigers would keep the game close before a barrage of three-point buckets by the Saints put it out of reach. Aquinas made ten three-point baskets on the day, and six in the second-half. The Saints outscored the visiting Tigers by 22 points after the break on their way to a 20-point victory.
Pfahler lead the way for the Saints with 22 points. The senior guard from Coopersville was 5-7 from behind the arc. Austin Semple was strong inside with 16 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Jake Bullock continued his strong play, scoring 13 points and adding eight assists. Zac VanBeek and Kolin Kazen each had ten points for the Saints.
The Saints return to the hardwood this weekend when they compete in the St. Xavier Tournament in Chicago. Aquinas opens play against Viterbo on Saturday at 9:00 pm.
