Saints Upend #1 Oakland to Complete Sweep

01/13/2014 – The Aquinas College men’s ice hockey team returned from the holiday break in fine fashion as they rolled to an impressive three game weekend sweep. On Friday night the Saints defeated Holy Cross College of Notre Dame by the score of 4–1 and followed that up on Saturday by defeating Holy Cross by the score of 6–3.

On Sunday the Saints traveled to Detroit to face Oakland University and completed the weekend trifecta in stunning fashion. Aquinas upended the #1 ranked Golden Grizzlies by the score of 4–3. Freshman Corey Giffel tallied twice for the Saints including the game winner along with single goals from Jimmy McDonagh and Matt Krzykwa. Goaltender Sean Schmeiser continued his streak of impressive performances with 41 saves. Sophomore Center Carson Miller added two assists on the evening as well.

With the weekend sweep the hockey Saints record now stands at 15–5–3. The Saints return to home ice on Saturday, January 25th to face Michigan State University at 5:20pm.
