01/19/2014 – The men's basketball team picked up their second win of the week as they defeated UM-Dearborn at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory evened the Saints conference mark at 6-6 and lifted their overall record to 9-11, while the Wolves fell to 4-15 overall and to 2-10 in the WHAC. Aquinas currently sits in seventh place in the league standings.
The win also lifted Dave Hammer, who is in his eleventh season as head coach, to his 200th coaching victory at Aquinas College. The victory also made Hammer the all-time winningest coach in school history. Hammer surpassed Rick Albro, who tallied a record of 199-207 during his tenure at Aquinas. Hammer's record at Aquinas now stands at 200-145.
Brett Pfahler paced five Saints in double figures with a 16 point performance. Austine Semple and Joe Ferrici both chipped in with 13 points, while Jake Bullock (12 points) and Kolin Kazen (10 points) both broke into double figures.
The Saints extended a a seven-point halftime lead by connecting on 19-of-21 free throw attempts during the second half to secure the home victory. Aquinas limited the Wolves to 35% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers.
Aquinas will return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Ann Arbor to battle the Cardinals of Concordia (8-11, 6-7 WHAC). The two teams met earlier in the season with Concordia earning a 91-86 overtime victory.
