01/30/2014 – The women's basketball snapped a three game losing streak in a big way with a 108-71 home victory over Marygrove. The victory improved the Saints record to 16-5 on the season and to 9-5 in league play, while the Mustangs fell to 0-15 in the WHAC and to 2-20 overall. Aquinas is tied for fourth in the league standings with three weeks to play until the end of the regular season.
The Saints, who were desperate for a win, took out some frustration on their guests from the Motor City. The 108 points tallied was the largest offensive output since January 25th, 2006 when the Saints defeated Indiana Tech 108-97. Aquinas shot 48% from the field and converted 38-51 free throw attempts during the contest. The two teams combined to commit a whopping 58 fouls on the evening.
The Saints saw five players hit double figures with Allison Heberlein leading the attack with 18 points. Danielle Lollo established a new career high as she struck for 17 points including perfection from the free throw line (9-9). A trio of seniors also played vital roles as Marisa Marx, Taelor Sanders and Lindsay Karpowicz combined for 34 points.
The Saints will now travel to Lima, Ohio on Saturday to square off with Northwestern Ohio (12-11, 9-6 WHAC) in a key WHAC showdown. Aquinas defeated the Racers 95-89 in a double overtime thriller earlier this season.
