Bowlers Compete at WHAC Championships

02/09/2014 – The women's bowling team concluded their season at the WHAC Championships this past weekend. The tournament was hosted by Davenport University at the Fairlanes Bowl in Grandville.

The women's team concluded their qualifying round in fifth place with a total of 1,922 pins. The Saints were then matched up with Lawrence Tech in the opening round of match play. The Blue Devils were victorious (3-1) and forced the Saints to have to work through the opposite side of the bracket. Aquinas was then defeated in overtime (3.5-2.5) by Northwestern Ohio in the second match of the day. The Saints gave the Racers everything they had before falling to the number two seed. Sara Hodge was named to the WHAC's Women's Bowling Champions of Character squad, while Kara Turkstra was named to the All-WHAC Academic Team.

The men's team finished their season a few weeks earlier and were forced to spectate the conference tournament due to their seventh place finish in the league standings. Zander Atwood was named to the WHAC's Men's Bowling Champions of Character squad. Atwood along with teammate, Tim Pleune, were also recognized on the WHAC's All-Academic Team.

Both Charlie and Marliss Tapp were named the WHAC's Champions of Character Coaches for Men's & Women's Bowling. The Tapp's, who just finished their first season with Saints, are already anxiously awaiting the start of next season
