02/16/2014 – The men's basketball team continues to gain momentum as they jockey for postseason positioning. A 71-64 road victory at Madonna improved the Saints record to 14-14 overall and to 11-9 in league play. The Crusaders, who were celebrating "Senior Day", fell to 14-6 in the WHAC and to 18-10 on the season. The Saints find themselves all alone in fifth place in the league standings with two games to play.
The one-two punch of Austin Semple and Kolin Kazen proved crucial as the seniors scored 20 and 17 respectively. The two were a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Despite 30% shooting in the first half, the Saints maintained a 26-22 lead at the half.
The Crusaders opened the second half on a 20-9 run to take a seven point advantage into the games final 13 minutes. The rally was short lived as Coach Hammer's crew tightened the defense and converted free throws (15-for-16 in the second half) to seal the victory.
The Saints will now travel across town to battle Cornerstone (25-3 and 19-1 WHAC) on Wednesday night.
