Saints Hockey Eliminated in Regional Play

02/24/2014 – The men’s hockey team was eliminated by two-time defending national champion Adrian College from ACHA regional play by the score of 4–1. In typical fashion, the Saints fought valiantly and kept the outcome in doubt until the later stages of the third period. The Bulldogs would score two late goals to clinch the victory and advance in the tournament.

Sophomore Doug Zelenka provided the only tally for the Saints and goalie Sean Schmeiser turned in another solid performance stopping 42 shots. Playing their final game in a Saints uniform were seniors: Hugh Ingalls, Christian Potter, Brent Steele, Jimmy McDonagh, and captain Greg Baranyai.

Coach Mark VanVliet was named Coach of the Year in the MCHA West, while Sam Matthews garnered Second Team All-MCHA honors. The Saints closed out the 2013-14 campaign with a record of 18-8-5. Aquinas saw marked improvements in all facets of the game from their inaugural season in which they finished with a 15-13 record.
