03/24/2014 – The Aquinas College men's lacrosse team improved its record to 5-1 with a 13-3 win over their hosts from Michigan-Dearborn. Eight different players scored goals to help the Saints defeat the Wolverines while battling chilly temperatures. The 5-1 record is the best start to a season in Aquinas history.
The Saints jumped out to a 5-1 first quarter lead in large part to four first quarter goals by sophomore attackman Grant Holloway. Aquinas extended the lead to 8-1 before the halftime break. The Wolverines played the Saints even in the third quarter, but the Saints shutout their opponents in the last stanza to claim the ten goal victory.
Holloway paced the Saints with five goals and an assist. Junior Jakob Auyer added two goals and three assists. Freshman defenseman Matt Mulcahy caused three turnovers and scooped up five groundballs, while also adding an assist. The goalie duo of Jimmy Watt and Alec Rasegan stopped 11 of 14 shots for the Saints.
The Saints open CCLA divisional play tomorrow as they host Grand Valley State University. Game time is 5:00 at the Aquinas College Athletic Field.
