04/15/2014 – The Aquinas College men’s lacrosse team won a pair of key games this past weekend to improve its record to 9-3 on the season. The Saints hosted Lawrence Tech on Friday night and defeated the Blue Devils 18-6. The next day, Aquinas traveled to Upland, Indiana to take on Taylor University and came away with a 26-6 win.
The Saints defeated Lawrence Tech in a battle of WHAC schools receiving votes in the national poll. After surrendering the games’ first goal, the Saints would score the next nine to hold an eight goal lead after one quarter and never looked back. Junior Zack Brancheau led the Saints with three goals and three assists. Grant Holloway had four goals. Jake Auyer, Tim Hansen, Will Comai and Matt Scheffler each scored twice. Auyer and Hansen both added two assists. Junior goalie Jimmy Watt was strong in net, stopping 19 Blue Devil shots.
The Saints took the trip south the next day to play divisional foe Taylor University. Once again the Saints came out firing, holding an 8-1 lead after the first. 14 different players scored a goal for Aquinas, led by Tim Hansen and freshman Nate Cantin with three each. Zack Brancheau had five assists, and Ryan Ruschmann added four of his own. Kyle Foley and Jack VanWieren both had two goals and two assists for Aquinas. With the win, the Saints are now 1-1 in division play.
