Men’s Lacrosse Sets Wins Record

04/16/2014 – The men’s lacrosse team overcame a slow start and chilly temperatures to defeat the Ferris State Bulldogs 20-6 last night in Big Rapids. With the win, the Saints set a new program record for wins in a single-season with ten. The previous record of nine wins was established in 2012. The Saints are 10-3, 2-1 in CCLA West play.

The Saints struggled to find their groove in the first, leading just 4-2. However, the Saints would turn it on in the second quarter, netting eight goals to take control of the game. The Saints defense took over the rest of the way and helped the Saints to their fifth win in a row.

Junior Jake Auyer scored four goals to lead the Saints. Fellow junior Zack Brancheau had two goals and three assists. Alex Rosema, Kyle Foley, Will Comai and Tim Hansen each added two goals. Hansen was a game-changer in the midfield for the Saints. The junior from Dimondale tied a school record with 15 groundballs and set a new record by winning 20 of 23 faceoffs. The Saints dominated the possession game, with Jack VanWieren recording 11 groundballs of his own and Christian VanDrie adding seven.

The Saints now turn their attention to Indiana Tech this Saturday. The game has big implications in the CCLA West division standings, and also serves as the third place game in the WHAC. Game time is 2:30 pm at the Aquinas Athletic Field.
