04/29/2014 – The men's tennis team recently wrapped up their 20th conference championship in school history. The Saints were a perfect 4-0 in WHAC play to retain their stranglehold in their WHAC penthouse. Coach Jerry Hendrick, who was named WHAC Coach of the Year, has been at the helm for 19 of those championships.
A pair of Saints were honored on the All-WHAC First Team for their work in singles play. Aaron Hendrick (20-10) and Kristoff Saari (28-2) were both selected to the first team, while teammate, Nik Artaev (19-6), earned a spot on the Honorable Mention squad.
The dynamic duo of Hendrick and Artaev (22-4) were also named First Team All-WHAC for doubles action. Saari and Gunnar Perry (21-6) were honored as Honorable Mention All-WHAC for their play at #2 doubles.
Hendrick and Artaev were also named to the All-WHAC Academic Team, while Artaev was Aquinas' representative on the Champions of Character squad.
This past weekend the Saints fell short in an attempt to secure an automatic bid to the National Championships. After defeating St. Ambrose and Indiana Tech, the Saints fell to up and coming Northwestern Ohio 5-2. The Saints will now play a waiting game to see if their #9 national ranking will secure them one of the at-large entries to the championships.
