Strong Second Half Leads to Victory

11/27/2010 – The women's basketball team earned third place at the Olivet College Thanksgiving Tournament with a 72-44 win over the host Comets. The Saints improve to 2-6 on the season with the victory, while Olivet's record slips to 1-4.

The Saints and Comets found themselves tied up at 22-22 with 3:12 remaining in the first half. At this point it had appeared that the two teams were going to go down to the wire in this closely contested match up. The Saints had other ideas as Marissa Marx and Taelor Sanders led Aquinas on a 21-4 explosion that covered the next eight minutes of the game. Olivet would not recover from the ambush as the Saints continued to hit shots and increased the lead over the remainder of the game.

The Saints were led offensively by Marissa Marx who scored 17 points, including 5-9 shooting from behind the three point arc. Taelor Sanders, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Shelby Carter also had another strong performance as she scored ten points and recorded nine rebounds.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as they host Alma (1-3) at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 7 p.m.
