12/04/2010 – The women's basketball team made it three straight victories as Aquinas defeated Northwestern Ohio 58-47. The Saints improved to 4-6 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while the Racers dropped to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the WHAC.
Aquinas wasted little time as the Saints jumped out to an early 15-2 advantage. The Saints defense keyed the fast start, as the Racers were credited with their first field goal make at the 9:49 mark of the first half. The Saints continued to out hustle the Racers and built the lead to as many as 18 late in the half.
The strong play of Ann Marie Schmaker kept the Saints rolling in the second half. Schmaker finished the day with 20 points on 5-10 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the line. The Saints had to with stand a mini-rally near the end of the contest that saw Northwestern Ohio draw within seven with 4:08 remaining in the game. The Saints withstood the rally and held on for the eleven point victory.
Aquinas will return to action on Wednesday as they host cross-town rival Cornerstone (10-1, 1-1 WHAC) at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 7:30 p.m.
