12/17/2010 – The men's basketball team defeated Grace Bible tonight at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center 68-67. The victory improves the Saints record to 6-8 overall, while the Tigers fall to 14-3 on the season.
The Tigers jumped out early on the Saints and took a nine point advantage into the halftime locker room. Grace Bible used eight three-pointers to stretch the Saints defense during the first half. Coach Hammer's crew made the necessary adjustments and played determined and inspired basketball during the decisive second half where the Saints held onto the one point victory.
Aquinas held Grace Bible's all-everything, Allen Durham, to a modest seven points and seven rebounds. The totals were well below the Tigers star players seasonal average. Damacious White led the attack for the Saints with 18 points, while Sandy Underwood netted a career high 14 points. Jamell Hatchett orchestrated a strong floor game as he accounted for ten points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Aquinas will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Calvin to battle the Knights at 3p.m.
