12/27/2010 – The women's basketball team was defeated by the Saints from St. Francis in the opening round of play at the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament. The victory improves St. Francis' record to 6-9, while Aquinas falls to 5-8 on the season.
The battle of the Saints quickly turned one sided as St. Francis rattled off the first eight points of the game. The lead swelled to 19 at the 2:39 mark of the first half on a pair of free throws by Bianca King. Aquinas closed the half a mini 7-0 run to draw within twelve at the halftime break.
St. Francis scored the first seven points of the second half to regain their 19 point lead. Brandi Pudik added a three pointer at the 12:57 mark to raise the lead to 24. Aquinas would trim the lead to 16 late in the contest and eventually fall by the final count of 69-52.
Aquinas was led by freshman Carly Bardwell and Marisa Marx, who both contributed ten points off the Saints bench. The Saints will return to action tomorrow as they continue play at the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament versus Roosevelt University.
