Saints Suffer Hard Luck Loss to Crusaders

01/19/2011 – White's 25 points not enough as the men's basketball team was defeated by Madonna by the score of 69-67. The Crusaders improved to 5-15 on the season and 3-5 in the WHAC, while the Saints fall to 8-13 overall and 1-7 in the league. The game marks the conclusion to the first half of league play for both squads.

The Saints showed improvements shooting the ball (42%), but was dominated by the Crusaders bench, which outscored Aquinas' bench 34-13. The first half was played very close to the vest as neither team extended the lead past five points. During the first 13 minutes of the second half the score remained tight as Madonna held a slim one point lead with 7:00 left to play. A 7-0 spurt over the next three minutes gave the Crusaders some breathing and proved to be the knockout blow to the Saints chances of stealing a road win.

In addition to White's 25 points, the Saints also saw double digit efforts from Jamell Hatchett (11), Matt Weiss (10) and Sandy Underwood (10).

Aquinas will look to snap their five game losing streak versus Marygrove on Saturday at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 3 p.m.
