Smith Hits Automatic, Heiler Breaks Another Record

01/29/2011 – The track teams were in action on Friday night taking part in the Calvin College Invitational. The Saints were matched up against Hope, Alma and the host Calvin College Knights. Emily Smith's toss in the 20lb. weight throw (50-5) automatically qualified her for the NAIA National Championships and placed her 4th on the Saints All-Time list.

Dustin Heiler broke his third record of the season as he eclipsed Chris Leikert's mark in the 1000M. Heiler's time of 2:30.36 automatically qualifies the Saint for the upcoming National Championships. Nick Thelen also ran strong in the 1000M, hitting a provisional time (2:33.57) and recording the 5th fastest time in school history.

The duo of Emily Sarros and Marika Rietsema turned in fine performances in the women's pole vault. Sarros cleared 10-2 and is #2 All-Time, while Rietsema cleared 9-8 and is #3 All-Time in a Saints uniform.

Aquinas will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Marion, Indiana to take part in the IWU Wildcat Invitational.
