03/28/2011 – The women's softball team won two of three games this weekend at the Olivet Nazarene Tournament contested in Bourbanis, Illinois. The Saints victories over Benedictine and IU-Southeast improved Aquinas' overall record to 15-7.
The first game on Friday saw the Saints defeat Benedictine by the score of 4-3. Ashley White recorded her seventh victory of the season as she scattered nine hits and allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work. The offense was keyed by the three hit attack by Lindsey Stewart and the two hit/two RBI performance of Torie Lowe.
The late game on Saturday was highlighted by the performance of pitcher, Carlie Giarmo. The sophomore hurled a no-hitter as she struck out six IU-Southeast batters en route to the victory. The offensive relief came from a Jillian Wagner two run home run in the fourth to secure the 2-0 win.
On Saturday the Saints not only battled host Olivet Nazarene, but also less than ideal conditions for softball. The Tigers made quick work of the Saints defeating them 10-1 in six innings.
The Saints will return to action of Wednesday as they travel to Jackson to play Spring Arbor in a doubleheader.
