04/11/2011 – The softball team split both of their doubleheaders this weekend as the Saints played at Concordia and Madonna. Currently the Saints are 23-11 overall and 6-4 in WHAC play.
The first game on Saturday at Concordia saw the Saints win in extra innings 4-3. Aquinas scored on two errors in the ninth to secure the one run victory. Carlie Giarmo picked up the victory as she allowed three earned runs and eight hits in nine innings of work. Lindsey Stewart led the team with two hits and a run scored. In game two, the Cardinals recorded their first win of the season by defeating the Saints 3-1. Aquinas could only muster four hits against the duo of Tiffani Jagielski and Catherine Herriman. Ashley White was credited with the loss as she gave up two earned runs and six hits in four innings of work.
The backdrop switched to Livonia on Sunday as the Saints and Crusaders renewed their rivalry. Game one went to Madonna as Jess Irwin one hit the Saints en route to a 4-2 victory. The Saints rebounded in game two behind the strong arm of Whitney Hudson. Hudson led the Saints to a 4-2 win as she pitched seven innings and allowed only one earned run. Heidi Holmes was the offensive hero as she went 3-4 with two runs scored.
Aquinas will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Davenport to battle the league leading Panthers.
