Saints Snap Panthers Win Streak

04/14/2011 – The women's softball team split a pair of games at Davenport on Wednesday night. The game one win for the Saints snapped Davenport's 17 game win streak. Currently the Saints are 24-12 on the season and 7-5 in league play, while Davenport sits at 26-13 and 13-1 in the WHAC.

The first game saw Aquinas' Carlie Giarmo and Davenport's
Sam Cole locked in a pitchers dual. Giarmo was credited with the win as she two-hit the Panthers and struck out six. Cole matched Giarmo in strikeouts with six, but allowed one run and three hits. The big play came in the fourth inning when Renae Tubergen delivered a Cole offering over the centerfield fence to give the Saints the lone run of the game.

Davenport responded in the second game with a convincing 9-0 win in five innings. The Panthers used four home runs and a two-hit shutout by Karlee Despres to prevent the Saint sweep.

Aquinas will return to action on Saturday when the Saints host Siena Heights in doubleheader at Fuller Park.
