09/10/2010 – The women's volleyball team successfully opened conference play with a three set victory over Siena Heights. The victory moves the Saints to an overall record of 2-3 and more importantly a 1-0 record in league play. The loss dropped Siena Heights to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.
The match, which was contested in Adrian at the Siena Heights Fieldhouse, saw both teams looking to start conference play off on the right foot. In three highly competitive matches, Aquinas found themselves on the winning end of all three. The Saints downed Siena (28-26, 25-22 and 25-21) to claim the three set victory. Katie Vander Meer played well as she recorded ten kills, 31 assists and seven digs. Chelsea Phillips led the Saints with 11 kills.
The Saints will travel today down to Canton, Ohio to compete in a weekend tournament hosted by Walsh and Malone Universities. Aquinas will play Walsh (5-2), Daemen (4-6), Malone (9-0) and Notre Dame College (1-9) over the two day event.
