05/02/2011 – The baseball team was defeated by Siena Heights 4-2 at Kimble Field in the Play-In Round of the WHAC Tournament. Siena Heights proceeded to defeated Concordia 10-2 to earn the fourth and final seed in the upcoming WHAC Championships. Siena Heights improved to 8-35 on the season with its pair of victories, while the Saints fell to 22-16-1 with the loss.
The Saints from Siena started the scoring in the top of the first with a two run home run by Brett Howard. Aquinas cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first with a Michael Wood sacrifice fly that brought in Austin King. Siena Heights regained the two run advantage in the top of the second thanks in part to two Aquinas fielding errors.
Josh Drake (Aquinas) and Brett Kuebler (Siena Heights), the two pitchers of record, both settled down and kept the offenses scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Michael Wood delivered an RBI single to close the gap to 3-2.
Siena scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring at 4-2.
The Saints will close out their 2011 season at Fifth Third Ball Park on Tuesday with a doubleheader versus Calvin College starting at 2:30 p.m.
