09/10/2010 – The men's soccer team ran their current winning streak to four games with today's 4-0 shutout of Dordt. The Saints improved to 4-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Defenders to 1-3-1. Aquinas' defense once again played outstanding as Dordt could only muster one shot on goal. Aquinas was also very efficient on the offensive end as it converted four of its seven shots on goal.
Mike Vaughan's header off a free kick by Ruben Ornelas-Luna in the fourth minute proved to be the eventual game winner. Later in the first half freshman Mitch Torres netted his first goal as a Saint on a set up by Jeo Pantoja. The Saints extended the lead early in half number two as Jeo Pantoja scored the Saints third goal of the game, while Casey Hogan closed the scoring for the Saints with a late goal in the 86th minute. Tyler Fischer and Joey VanGessel were credited with the two second half assists. Goalie Craig Demshuk notched the victory as he stop the Defenders lone shot on goal.
The Saints will return to action on Sunday as Aquinas will host the Cougars of St. Francis (IN) at 2 p.m. at the Aquinas College Soccer Field.
