09/10/2010 – The women's soccer team scores a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Dordt to record its first win of the year. The Saints improve to 1-4 on the season, while the loss drops the Defenders to 4-1 on the young season.
The Saints played inspired soccer today as they faced starting the season with five consecutive losses. A strong defensive attack kept the Defenders at bay all game. Aquinas outshot Dordt 9-4 and controlled the game for most of the 90 minutes of play. The Saints scored the lone goal of the game in the 54th minute as senior Teresa Buiocchi angled one past the Defenders keeper. Lynsey Pelak was credited with the assist on Buiocchi's goal. Aquinas' Kelsey Duley recorded the victory in net as she saved all four of the Defenders shots on goal.
Aquinas will be right back in action tomorrow as the Saints play host to St. Xavier as the Aquinas College soccer field at 3 p.m.
