09/15/2011 – The women's volleyball team opened WHAC play with a road victory over UM Dearborn 3-1. The Saints improved to 9-5 on the season, while the Wolves dropped to 9-7 on the year.
The Saints fell victim to the Wolves early as the home team won the first set 25-17. The tide quickly turned as the Saints rattled off three straight set victories (25-15, 25-14 and 25-14). The story of the match was Chelsea Phillips who dominated play with 21 kills and four blocks. The senior from Holland West Ottawa propelled the Saints to their first conference victory of the year. Sophomore setter from Whitehall, Nicci Thomas, led the team with 41 assists, while defensive specialist, Sarah LeClair paced the Saints with 26 digs.
On LeClair's twelfth dig on the night, Sarah established a new school record for career digs. The senior from Grand Haven eclipsed the previous record held by Andrea Romberg (1998-2001), who finished her Aquinas career with 1,776 digs. LeClair currently has 1,791 digs and will look to add to her record total as the season progresses.
Phillips, LeClair, Thomas and the rest of the Saints will look to extend their winning streak to four games as they host Olivet College on Friday night at 7 p.m.
