09/15/2011 – The men's soccer team defeated Lawrence Tech by the count of 5-0 to extend their winning streak to five games. The Saints improved to 6-1 on the season, while the Blue Devils are still searching for their first victory at 0-3-1.
The Saints scored early and often in this game as Aquinas out shot Lawrence Tech 26-6. Tyler Fischer started the offensive outburst with a goal in the 4th minute of play. Portage Northern standouts, Casey Higgason and Heath Somers, were given the assists on Fischer's goal. The Saints extended their lead during the 23rd minute on a goal by Billy Cremeans. Higgason notched his second assist of the game on the final goal of the first half.
With the Saints leading 2-0, Tyler Fischer struck again and scored his fourth goal of the season in the 57th minute. Sophomore Mitch Torres was credited with the assist on Aquinas' third goal of the game. The Saints continued their assault of the Blue Devils keeper when Billy Cremeans rang up another goal in the 66th minute. Aquinas concluded the scoring in the 77th minute as Higgason scored his first goal of the season on a setup by Fischer. Aquinas keeper Jesse Guevara-Lehker earned the victory as he recorded two saves.
The Saints will look to continue their winning ways with a home date on Sunday versus Cardinal Stritch (3-2) at Noon.
