09/25/2011 – The women's volleyball team lost a thriller to Cornerstone in front of a large crowd at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The Golden Eagles improved to 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC, while the Saints fell to 12-6 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
The two cross town rivals hooked up for a special homecoming night volleyball game. The Saints were led by their senior trio of Chelsea Phillips, Jessica Curtis and Sarah LeClair. Phillips, who is the reigning WHAC Player of the Week, recorded 20 kills and four blocks. Curtis enjoyed her best game of the season as she notched nine kills and 19 digs, while LeClair led the Saints with 28 digs. Sophomore Nicci Thomas quarterbacked the team en route to 44 assists.
The teams went back and forth all night (22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21 and 12-15) with the Golden Eagles forging ahead late in the fifth set to earn the victory. The two teams will be right back in action against each other on Wednesday night as Cornerstone plays hosts in a non-league match starting at 7 p.m.
