Fischer's Hat Trick Leads Saints to Victory

10/02/2011 – The men's soccer team defeated Rochester College 5-1 as the Saints inch closer to conference play. The victory improves the Saints record to 9-2 on the season, while the Warriors record falls to 6-6 on the season.

The Saints offense erupted for five goals in the first half on the host Warriors of Rochester. An own goal followed by three consecutive goals by Tyler Fischer gave the Saints the four goal advantage at the 35:59 mark of the half. Casey Higgason added the fifth and final goal of the half during the 42nd minute. Jonathan Spencer and Sven Welz were awarded assists on the Aquinas goals. Rochester's Daniel Sergeant scored the Warriors lone goal during the 49th minute of play to close the scoring. The Saints out shot Rochester 25-9 and Jesse Guavara-Lehker recorded one save and was credited with the victory.

The win also gave Coach Joe Veal his 90th career victory as head coach of the Saints. The 90 victories ties Abe Shearer for first place on the Men's Soccer All-Time List for coaching victories.

Coach Veal and the Saints will return to action on Wednesday as Aquinas hosts Marygrove at 4 p.m.
