10/06/2011 – Matthea Brandenburg's overtime goal was the difference maker as the Saints defeated their crosstown rivals 2-1. The victory improved the Saints record to 10-3 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while the Golden Eagles fell to 4-6-1 overall and are now 0-2 in the WHAC.
Cornerstone gained a quick 1-0 advantage over the Saints as Heidi DeVries headed a corner kick passed the Saints keeper in the eleventh minute. The Saints scored the equalizer off the foot of Elizabeth Vaughan in the 22nd minute to tie the game at one a piece. The score remained tied until the second minute of overtime when Matthea Brandenburg's shot found the back of the net.
Kelsey Duley saved three shots and was credited with the victory. The Saints out shot the Golden Eagles 15-6.
Aquinas will return to action on Saturday as the Saints travel to Ann Arbor to battle Concordia (1-5-1, 0-2).
