Coach Veal Sets Record in Victory

10/06/2011 – The men's soccer team defeated Marygrove 3-2 to secure Joe Veal his 91st victory as head coach of the Saints. The victory improves Aquinas' record to 10-2 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 2-9-1.

Jordan Berry started the scoring for Marygrove as his shot in the ninth minute found the back of the net. The reigning WHAC Player of the Week, Tyler Fischer, scored his eleventh goal of the season in the 23rd minute to tie the game at one. The 29th minute saw another Berry sighting as Jordan Berry collected his second goal of the game. Trailing 2-1, the Saints turned to Billy Cremeans to even the score at two. Cremeans notched his ninth goal of the season in the 31st minute. Tyler Fischer was credited with the assist on Cremeans first goal.

With the game in the balance, Billy Cremeans delivered once again to give the Saints the go ahead goal late in the second half. Cremeans tenth goal of the season proved to be the game winner and helped the Saints conclude their non-conference schedule with a 10-2 record. The Saints out shot the Mustangs 26-3 and Jesse Guevara-Lehker was awarded the victory for the Saints.

The victory for Coach Veal made him the most prolific coach in the programs history. Veal passed Abe Shearer, who had collected 90 wins in his tenure at Aquinas. Coach Veal now stands six wins shy of 200 for his total coaching career.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday as the Saints travel to Ann Arbor to battle Concordia (1-7-1, 0-1).
