Saints Survive Late Rally, Defeat Wolves

10/08/2011 – The women's volleyball team defeats Lourdes University in a five set thriller. The victory improves the Saints record to 15-8 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Wolves drop to 7-15 on the season and are now 0-4 in the WHAC.

After taking the first two sets (25-20 and 25-17), the Saints were poised for the three set sweep. The host Wolves had other ideas as they responded to take the next two sets (25-21 and 25-17) to force a fifth and deciding game. Aquinas weathered the storm and won the fifth set and were able to sneak out of Sylvania with a 3-2 win.

Allison Griffiths provided the heroics as she recorded 19 kills and eight blocks. Rachel Sprenger and Jessica Bredeweg guided the offense with a combined 42 assists. The Saints also received fine play from Sarah LeClair, who notched 27 digs and Elle Sturgell who recorded eleven blocks.

The Saints will be in action on Wednesday as Aquinas will host Davenport (15-7, 3-1 WHAC) at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 7 p.m. The game will also be broadcasted on Michigan Sports Radio.
