11/05/2011 – The women's soccer team inched one step closer to a berth in the NAIA National Championships with a 3-1 win over Indiana Tech. The victory for the Saints was their 13th in a row and their overall record now stands at 16-3. The Warriors concluded their 2011 season with an 11-8-1 record.
The Saints, who defeated the Warriors 2-0 earlier in the year, quickly fell behind Tech in the fifth minute of play. Emily Swanson was assisted by Natalie Zimmerman on the Warriors goal. Madeline Rammal scored her fourth goal of the season to even the score at one midway through the first half. The two teams battled for the next 64 minutes with neither team gaining the decisive advantage. Aquinas looked to WHAC Offensive Player of the Year, Jaime Tomaszewski, for the go ahead goal. Tomaszewski's 16th goal of the season at the 84 minute of the game was assisted by Chelsea Dennis. Dennis was not done as she scored her fourth goal of the season during the 87th minute. Tomaszewski and Matthea Brandenburg were credited with the assists. Kelsey Duley was stellar once again in net as she secured eight saves. The Saints out shot the Warriors 25-17.
Aquinas will now host Siena Heights in the WHAC Championship game on Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
