11/09/2011 – The men's soccer team has advanced to the WHAC Championship game on Saturday. The Saints defeated Siena Heights 1-0 on a windy, cool fall day. The victory lifts the Saints record to 15-3-1 on the year, while Siena finishes their season at 6-10-3. Coupled with a Cornerstone loss to Madonna, the Saints will now host the Crusaders in the WHAC Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The lone score of the game came in the fourth minute when Heath Somers found the back of the net to give the Saints the 1-0 advantage. Somers, who season was feared to be over with a knee injury, returned off the disabled list to give the Saints offense a jolt. Jesse Guavara-Lehker and the patented Joe Veal defense took care of the rest. Guavara-Lehker recorded six saves in 90 minutes of work, while the rest of the defense stymied the Siena offense.
