Late Goal Lifts Siena to WHAC Championship

11/11/2011 – The women's soccer team was defeated by Siena Heights 2-1 in the WHAC Championship game today. Siena will now automatically advance to the NAIA National Championships, while the Saints will have to wait to see if they will be an awarded an at-large berth. Siena's record improves to 13-7 on the season, while Aquinas' (16-4) 13 game winning streak comes to a close.

After a scoreless first half, Siena Heights drew first blood. An unassisted goal by Maria Butler in the 57th minute gave the Saints from Adrian the one goal advantage. A little over five minutes later Aquinas' Madeline Rammal converted the equalizer to tie the score at one. The game seemed destined for overtime until Siena's All-WHAC performer, Alessia Vagnini, scored the game winner at the 88:22 mark.

Siena's goalie Amanda Martino was credited with six saves, while Aquinas' Kelsey Duley recorded nine.
