11/20/2011 – The women's basketball team swept a pair of games over the weekend as the Saints played host at the Aquinas College Classic. The wins improved the Saints record to 4-2 on the season.
The Saints used a strong second half on Friday night to outdistance themselves from Calumet St. Joseph. Aquinas turned a two point halftime lead into a 16 point runaway. The 71-55 victory was fueled by the play of Taelor Sanders. The junior from Dewitt scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded four steals. Allison Heberlein scored a career high 15 points, while Shelby Carter dominated the inside with 12 points and ten rebounds. Aquinas won the board war 58-41 and were credited with 16 steals.
On Saturday, the Saints were matched up with #15 ranked Cardinal Stritch from Wisconsin. The storyline was very similar to the previous night as the Saints turned a two point halftime advantage into a convincing victory. Allison Heberlin paced the Saints with 18 points, while Taelor Sanders chipped in with 13. The duo were named to the All-Tournament team for their fine play. The Saints limited their turnovers and turned up the heat on the defensive end to finish the weekend with a 2-0 record.
The Saints will be tested this week as Aquinas travels to Grand Valley (0-2) on Tuesday and then will host Hope College (2-1) on Saturday.
