12/21/2011 – The men's basketball team was defeated by St. Ambrose on day one of the St. Xavier Midwest Tournament. The Fighting Bees improved to 8-5 with the victory, while the Saints fell to 5-9 on the season.
Aquinas started slowly as St. Ambrose quickly jumped out to an eight point advantage at the twelve minute mark of the first half. The Saints found their legs and ambushed the Bees over the next eight minutes. The run saw Aquinas outscore their opponent by the count of 20-3 and allowed the Saints to take a 27-18 lead. The Fighting Bees did not panic and scored eleven of the final thirteen points in half number one to tie the game at 29.
The game remained tight and was tied at 52 with 7:21 to play in regulation. The tide turned when Marquez Davis was inserted into the game and scored 12 of his game high 26 points during the decisive run that led to the Bees eight point victory (76-68).
Cole Moore led the Saints with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Jake Shockey contributed 14 points and nine rebounds to the Saints cause.
Aquinas will be right back in action today as the Saints play Columbia College at 3 p.m.
