01/09/2012 – The women's basketball team saw their five game winning streak halted by Siena Heights 75-60. The victory improved Siena's record to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the WHAC, while the Saints fell to 4-2 in the league and 11-6 on the season.
The Saints from Siena used a pivotal 17-0 run midway through the first half to build a 16 point advantage with eight minutes to play in the half. Aquinas responded by finishing the half on a 20-7 surge to narrow the lead to three points at the break.
Siena Heights used 58% second half shooting to methodically extend their advantage. The Saints pushed a two point lead at the 12 minute mark to an 18 point bulge late in the contest. Raina Chambers paced the Siena attack by scoring 17 points, while Samantha Wolford contributed 15 points and six rebounds. Taelor Sanders led the Saints with 13 points and five rebounds.
Aquinas will return to action on Wednesday as they host #7 Concordia (14-3, 5-2 WHAC) at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 7:30 p.m.
