01/18/2012 – Rumeal McKinney and Emily Smith were both recognized as WHAC Indoor Athletes of the Week for the sport of Track & Field.
McKinney received the honor after winning the 60 and 200 meter dashes for Aquinas at the Chippewa Open hosted by Central Michigan. The senior from Southfield, Michigan ran a 6.87 in the 60 and a 22.64 in the 200. McKinney currently is ranked first in the NAIA in the 60 meter (6.68) and has qualified for the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Smith also excelled for the Saints with a pair of top-two finishes at the Chippewa Open. The Port Huron junior won the weight throw with a distance of 49-9.75 and was second in the shot put with a personal-best 40-2.25. Smith's throw in the shot moved her into fourth on the school's all-time list.
