Aquinas Defense Keys Victory

01/19/2012 – The men's basketball team notched a home victory over their guests from Madonna at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory elevates the Saints record to 10-11 on the season and to 6-3 in the WHAC, while the Crusaders fell to 11-10 on the year and to 5-4 in league play.

The old adage, "defense wins championships", continues to define the 2012 version of the men's basketball squad. Coach Hammer's crew stymied the Crusaders to 17 first half points and limited Madonna to 28% shooting for the game. The Saints also featured a balanced offensive attack that saw solid contributions from its starting five. Zach Eddy led all scorers with 15 points, while Joe Powers stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The Saints are currently tied for second place in the WHAC at the seasons midpoint.

The Saints will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday as they travel to Sylvania, Ohio to battle Lourdes (11-10, 5-5 WHAC), who is riding a five game winning streak.
