01/26/2012 – The men's basketball team connected on a season high 11 three pointers to help secure the win versus Northwestern Ohio. The victory improved the Saints record to 11-12 overall and to 7-4 in the WHAC, while the Racers fell to 6-16 on the season and to 1-10 in league play. Aquinas currently finds themselves in a six team log jam with a game and a half separating second through seventh place in the WHAC.
The Saints used a quick start to put their guests from Lima, Ohio in an early hole. Aquinas connected on 62% of their first half field goals including nine from beyond the three point arc. Conversely the Racers offense was neutralized by the Saints potent defense. Northwestern Ohio shot 31% and committed seven turnovers in the first half. The combination led to a 53-25 halftime advantage for the Saints.
Aquinas maintained the healthy lead and cruised to the 85-65 victory. A balanced attack saw all five starters convert for double figures. Zach Eddy paced the attack with 19 points (9-12 from the field) and six rebounds, while Joe Powers added 16 points and seven assists. Jake Shockey was impressive as the senior filled the stat sheet with 13 points, ten rebounds, and five assists.
The Saints will travel to Cornerstone (13-10, 7-4 WHAC) on Saturday to battle the Golden Eagles at 3 p.m.
