01/29/2012 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Cornerstone University at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center 62-54. The victory improved the Golden Eagles record to 15-9 on the season and to 8-4 in league play, while the Saints fell to 13-10 overall and to 6-6 in the WHAC. Cornerstone remains in third place in the conference standings, while the Saints slip to sixth.
A 16-5 run to close the half gave the cross town rival a 35-26 advantage at the intermission. Ashley Moon's four triples sparked the Golden Eagles surge and was a precursor of things to come. Moon connected on three more from beyond the arc in the second half to lead all scorers with 21 points.
Coach Nash's squad maintained its composure and rallied to tie the game at 45 with 9:23 to play. The 13-2 spurt was capped off by a three point make by Marissa Marx. The comeback was spurned as Cornerstone executed down the stretch and prevailed 62-54. The Saints shooting woes (27% from the field) proved too much to overcome. Taelor Sanders paced the Saints with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Chelsea Matley added eight points.
The Saints will travel to Fort Wayne on Wednesday to play the Warriors of Indiana Tech (11-13, 3-9 WHAC) at 7:30 p.m.
