02/06/2012 – The Aquinas College men’s lacrosse team opened the 2012 season with a resounding win over host Northern Michigan University. After making the long journey to the Upper Peninsula, the Saints defeated the Wildcats 17-5 to begin the season with a victory.
The Saints jumped out on top early thanks to a swarming defense and some opportunistic goals. Aquinas led 7-1 after the first quarter and 8-4 at the half. In the second half, the offense put it together and the Saints outscored their opponents 9-1.
A frustrating Saints’ defense confused the Wildcat attack all game long, and freshman goalies Joe Manuszak and Jimmy Watt backed the defense with some big saves up close.
Senior's Nate McCorry (4 goals) and Ty Rosema (3 goals) led the Aquinas offensive attack, with Grant Holloway and Casey Coretti each contributing two goals a piece.
Freshman midfielder Tim Hansen scored four goals in his first game as a Saint, and also helped control possession with a strong day on face-offs. Sophomores Mark Evans and Josh Jeszke also contributed to the scoring.
The Saints will return to action in a month when Aquinas ventures South for their spring break trip.
